Welcome to a space where your story is not just heard, but deeply understood. I am Elly Jeong, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and the founder and CEO of Talk to Heal Counseling Center. My life’s work has been dedicated to building that bridge for my clients, particularly those within the immigrant community who are navigating the complex layers of identity, family, and mental health. Whether you are dealing with the weight of "second-generation" expectations or simply looking for a therapist who understands the nuances of your cultural background, I am here to walk alongside you.
The Vision Behind Talk to Heal
When I founded Talk to Heal Counseling Center, my goal was to create a sanctuary where modern clinical standards meet genuine human warmth. As the CEO, I have carefully cultivated a team and an environment that prioritizes your safety and sense of belonging above all else. I believe that mental health care should not be a "one-size-fits-all" service. It should be as unique and multifaceted as you are.
My academic journey began at Hampshire College, where I pursued an interdisciplinary concentration in Psychology and Religious Studies. This foundation allowed me to see the human experience through a wide lens: understanding that our beliefs, our histories, and our spiritualities are deeply intertwined with our mental well-being. I later earned my Master of Social Work from Columbia University, an experience that refined my clinical expertise and instilled in me a deep commitment to social justice and culturally sensitive care.

Bridging the Cultural Divide: The Second-Generation Experience
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is supporting second-generation immigrant teens and adults. Growing up in a household where "the old world" meets "the new world" often creates a unique set of challenges that traditional therapy sometimes overlooks.

You might find yourself acting as a translator for your parents, not just in language, but in culture and values. You may feel a deep sense of "filial piety" or duty to your family, while simultaneously craving the independence and self-expression celebrated in Western society. This "tug-of-war" can lead to high levels of anxiety, depression, and a fractured sense of self.
In our sessions, I help you navigate these cultural divides. We work on:
Identity Reconciliation: Understanding how to honor your roots while growing into the person you want to be.
Boundary Setting: Learning how to establish healthy boundaries with family members in a way that is respectful yet empowering.
Communication Skills: Bridging the gap between you and your first-generation parents to foster mutual understanding and trauma healing.
My approach is always strengths-based. I don’t just look at the conflict; I look at the incredible resilience you have developed by living between these worlds. We use that resilience as a foundation for your healing.
Multilingual Care: Beyond Just Translation
Language is the vessel of our emotions. Sometimes, there are feelings that simply don’t have an English equivalent, or memories that are stored in the language of our childhood. To provide truly comprehensive care, I offer therapy in English, Korean, and Japanese.
Being multilingual allows me to meet you exactly where you are. If you find it easier to express a certain emotion in Korean or describe a cultural nuance in Japanese, you don't have to worry about the "meaning" getting lost in translation. This linguistic flexibility creates a deeper level of intimacy and safety in the therapeutic relationship. It ensures that your cultural identity is not something you have to explain, but something that is naturally woven into the fabric of our work together.

While cultural sensitivity is the heart of my practice, clinical excellence is the backbone. I utilize a variety of modern, evidence-based modalities to ensure you are getting the most effective care possible. My specialties include treating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, and eating disorders.
I integrate several therapeutic frameworks depending on your specific needs:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): To help you identify and shift the thought patterns that keep you stuck in cycles of anxiety or low self-esteem.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Excellent for emotional regulation and building the skills necessary to handle life's "big" feelings without becoming overwhelmed.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Focusing on your values to help you move forward with purpose, even in the presence of difficult emotions.
Trauma-Informed Care: Recognizing that many of our current struggles are rooted in past experiences. We work to reconstruct relationships and build resilience through a lens of safety and empowerment.

At Talk to Heal, we recognize that an individual does not exist in a vacuum. Especially within immigrant communities, the health of the individual is often tied to the health of the family unit. I work with preteens, teens, and adults, often helping families understand one another better.
