Life doesn’t come with a manual. Whether you are navigating the high-pressure world of early adulthood, managing the complexities of mid-life, or transitioning into the "golden years," the search for balance can often feel like chasing a moving target. I believe that no matter what stage of life you are in, you deserve a space where you can feel seen, heard, and deeply supported.
I am Mi Kim, an Associate Professional Counselor (APC) here at Talk to Heal Counseling Center. My mission is to walk alongside you as you navigate life’s inevitable ups and downs. My approach to therapy isn't just about "fixing" problems; it’s about understanding the whole person: your history, your values, your physical health, and your emotional well-being. By taking a holistic view of your life, we can work together to create a path toward healing that feels authentic to who you are.
A Holistic Approach to Mental Wellness
When I talk about "holistic" therapy, I’m referring to the idea that your mind and body are not separate entities. Your mental health is influenced by your relationships, your environment, your physical habits, and even your sense of purpose. In our sessions, I don't just focus on symptoms like anxiety or sadness in isolation. Instead, I look at the bigger picture of your life.
I recognize that seeking therapy can feel like a vulnerable step. That is why I prioritize creating a safe, supportive, and respectful environment where you can explore your thoughts without judgment. I want you to feel that from the moment you step into our space: whether virtually or in person: you are in a sanctuary designed for your growth.

Tools for Change: Acceptance, Commitment, and Cognitive Shifts
In my practice, I utilize two primary evidence-based frameworks to help you achieve the balance you’re looking for: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). While they are different in their methods, they work beautifully together to empower you with practical tools for daily life.
Navigating with ACT
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a unique form of therapy that encourages you to stop fighting against your difficult thoughts and feelings. Instead, we work on accepting them as a part of the human experience while committing to actions that align with your deepest values.
I often use ACT to help clients who feel "stuck." If you feel like you’re constantly battling your own mind, ACT can help you find psychological flexibility. We focus on:
Mindfulness: Learning to stay present in the moment.
Values Clarification: Identifying what truly matters to you so you can make choices that bring fulfillment.
Committed Action: Taking steps toward the life you want, even when it’s hard.
Reframing with CBT
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a more structured approach where I help you identify and challenge negative thought patterns. Often, our brains get stuck in loops of "all-or-nothing" thinking or "catastrophizing." Through CBT, I empower you to catch these patterns and replace them with more balanced, realistic perspectives.
By combining these two methods, I can offer you a toolkit that addresses both the "why" of your feelings and the "how" of making things better. Whether we are re-wiring a long-held belief about your self-worth or learning how to sit with the discomfort of a major life change, I am there to guide you through each step.
Specialized Care for Seniors and Aging Families
One of my greatest passions is supporting seniors and the families who care for them. Our society often overlooks the mental health needs of the aging population, but I believe this stage of life requires specialized, compassionate attention.
Aging brings a unique set of challenges that can easily disrupt your sense of balance. You might be dealing with:
The transition into retirement and the loss of a professional identity.
Changes in physical health or mobility.
Grief and the loss of friends, spouses, or siblings.
The emotional toll of moving into assisted living or downsizing a long-time home.
I provide a respectful space for seniors to process these transitions. I also work extensively with family members and caregivers. Caring for an aging parent or spouse is an act of love, but it is also incredibly demanding. It can lead to "caregiver burnout," guilt, and complicated family dynamics. I help families navigate these waters, ensuring that the caregiver’s mental health is prioritized just as much as the senior’s physical care.

Supporting the Whole Family Unit
Families are like ecosystems; when one part changes, the whole system has to adjust. This is especially true during the aging process or when a family member is dealing with a chronic illness. I assist families in improving communication, setting healthy boundaries, and finding ways to support one another without losing themselves in the process.
My goal is to help you find resilience. Even in the face of loss or declining health, there is an opportunity for connection and meaning. We work on honoring the past while finding ways to enjoy the present.
What to Expect When We Work Together
If you decide to start your journey with me, you can expect a relationship built on mutual collaboration. I don't see myself as the "expert" on your life: you are the expert. I am the facilitator who brings the clinical tools and the clinical authority to help you navigate your path.
In our first few sessions, I’ll spend time getting to know you. We’ll talk about your goals, your history, and what has brought you to Talk to Heal Counseling Center. From there, we’ll develop a plan that feels manageable. I believe in setting small, achievable goals that build your confidence and lead to long-term progress.

Why I Do What I Do
My choice to become a therapist stems from a deep-seated belief in the human capacity for change. I have seen firsthand how the right support can transform a person's outlook on life. My background as an APC allows me to provide high-quality, modern clinical care that is always evolving. I stay up-to-date with the latest research in ACT and CBT to ensure you are receiving the best possible service.
Every person I meet has a unique story, and it is a privilege to be a part of yours. I am committed to providing a trauma-informed experience, which means I am always mindful of how your past experiences may be impacting your current reality. Your safety is my top priority.
