Finding the right therapist is a bit like finding a home. It’s not just about the four walls or the furniture; it’s about that immediate sense of relief when you walk through the door: the feeling that you are safe, understood, and exactly where you need to be.
I’m Ash Thampi, and at Talk to Heal Counseling Center, my mission is to provide that "home" for your mental health. As an Associate Professional Counselor (APC), I’ve dedicated my career to helping individuals navigate the complexities of trauma, addiction, and identity. My journey to this practice has been a global one, spanning three countries and countless stories of resilience. Today, I want to share a bit about who I am, how I work, and how we can work together to help you find your way back to yourself.
A Global Perspective on Healing
One of the most defining aspects of my practice is my multicultural background. Before settling here in Georgia, I lived and worked in India and Ireland. I was formally trained as a Clinical Psychologist in India, earning my M.Phil in Clinical Psychology from Sri Ramachandra Medical College and my Master’s in Applied Psychology from PSG College. Later, I moved to the United States to complete my Master’s in Clinical Counseling at East Carolina University.
Why does this international background matter for you? Because culture isn't just a backdrop to our lives; it’s the lens through which we view everything: our family dynamics, our successes, our failures, and our pain.
I understand what it feels like to navigate different worlds. Whether you are a first-generation immigrant, a student far from home, or someone who simply feels like they don’t quite "fit" the standard societal mold, I am here to honor your unique story. I offer therapy in English, Hindi, Malayalam, and Tamil, ensuring that language is never a barrier to the healing you deserve.

Specialized Care: Addiction Recovery with Compassion
One of my primary areas of focus is addiction counseling. I know that the road to recovery is rarely a straight line. It is often paved with shame, fear, and the weight of past mistakes. My approach to addiction is rooted in deep empathy and a strengths-based perspective.
I don't see addiction as a character flaw; I see it as a complex response to pain, trauma, or unmet needs. In our sessions, we won’t just talk about "stopping" a behavior. We will dive deeper to understand the "why" behind the struggle. By using evidence-based modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I help you develop the practical tools needed to manage triggers, regulate emotions, and rebuild a life that feels worth living.
If you’re ready to take that first step toward recovery, you can book a session here. You don’t have to carry this burden alone.
Moving Beyond Trauma with EMDR
Trauma has a way of staying stuck in the body and the mind. It shows up as flashbacks, chronic anxiety, or a constant feeling of being "on edge." For many of my clients, traditional talk therapy is a great start, but it sometimes feels like we’re just scratching the surface.
This is why I specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based modality specifically designed to help the brain process traumatic memories so they no longer carry the same emotional charge. Instead of just talking about what happened, EMDR helps your brain do the "filing" it couldn't do at the time of the event.
I use EMDR to support clients dealing with PTSD, childhood trauma, and even the "small-t" traumas of everyday life that leave us feeling stuck. It is a transformative process, and seeing my clients move from a state of hyper-vigilance to a state of peace is the most rewarding part of my work.

A Space for All: Teens, Adults, and the LGBTQ+ Community
My practice at Talk to Heal is inclusive and welcoming to individuals from all walks of life. I work extensively with both teens and adults, addressing a wide range of concerns including:
Anxiety and Depression: Helping you find light even on the darkest days.
Grief and Loss: Providing a gentle space to process life’s most difficult transitions.
LGBTQ+ Issues: Offering an affirming environment where your identity is celebrated and respected.
Personality Disorders and Life Transitions: Navigating the big changes and internal struggles that make life feel overwhelming.
I believe that every person who enters my office: or joins me for a virtual session: is the expert on their own life. My job is to be your collaborator and guide. Together, we will build a supportive, respectful relationship that empowers you to make the changes you want to see.
What to Expect in Our First Session
I know that starting therapy can feel a little intimidating. You might be wondering, What do I say? Will I be judged?
Let me reassure you: our first session is all about building a connection. I prioritize your safety and comfort above all else. We will go at your pace. I use a trauma-informed approach, which means I am always mindful of your emotional boundaries.
We will talk about your goals, your history, and what has brought you to this moment. Most importantly, I will listen. You can learn more about our entire team here and see how we work together to support the community.
