Life often feels like a series of chapters we didn’t choose to write. Perhaps you’ve spent years living out a story defined by expectations, past traumas, or the heavy weight of cultural "shoulds." If you’ve ever felt like a character in your own life rather than the author, I want you to know that there is space here for change.
I am Grace Haeun Paik, a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) at Talk to Heal Counseling Center, and my passion is helping individuals, couples, and families reclaim their voices. Whether you are navigating the complexities of trauma, the deep ache of grief, or the unique challenges of being a second-generation immigrant, I am here to help you rewrite your narrative into one of resilience, agency, and hope.
The Power of the Story You Tell Yourself
We all tell stories about who we are. Some stories tell us we aren't "enough." Others tell us that because of what happened in our past, we are destined to remain stuck. These narratives are often shaped by experiences outside of our control, childhood trauma, societal pressure, or systemic barriers.
In my work, I utilize Narrative Therapy, an approach that views you as the expert of your own life. We work together to "externalize" the problems you face. Instead of believing you are the problem, we look at the problem as something separate that is influencing your life. By doing this, we create the distance needed to examine how these stories started and, more importantly, how we can begin to write new ones.

A Trauma-Informed Sanctuary
Healing is not a linear path, and it certainly isn't something that can be rushed. When you walk into a session with me, whether virtually or at our Johns Creek office, the first thing I prioritize is your safety.
Being "trauma-informed" means more than just understanding what happened to you. It means recognizing that your brain and body have developed brilliant ways to survive. Sometimes, those survival mechanisms, like anxiety, hyper-vigilance, or shutting down, eventually start to get in the way of the life you want to live.
I strive to create a space that is respectful, non-judgmental, and deeply supportive. I want you to feel "seen" in a way that perhaps you haven't been before. My background includes a Master of Social Work from Columbia University, where I focused on the intersection of mental health and culture. This training allows me to hold space for the heavy stuff while providing practical, evidence-based tools to help you ground yourself when the world feels overwhelming.
Bridging the Gap: Bilingual Support for the Korean Community
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is supporting the Korean-American community here in Georgia. Navigating life between two cultures can feel like living in a "third space" where you don't quite fit into either world perfectly.
For many second-generation immigrants, there is a profound sense of "filial piety" or family obligation that clashes with the Western desire for individual autonomy. This can lead to significant tension, guilt, and a feeling of being misunderstood by both parents and peers.
As a bilingual therapist fluent in English and Korean (and also proficient in Japanese), I offer a bridge. I understand the nuances of cultural values like han (deep-seated sorrow) and the complexities of generational trauma that can travel through families. I help my clients navigate these cultural divides, fostering better communication within families while helping individuals develop a strong, independent sense of self.

My Clinical Approach: Tools for Transformation
While the relationship we build is the foundation of our work, I also bring a toolkit of evidence-based practices to ensure you are seeing real progress. Every person is unique, so I tailor my approach to what you need in the moment.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): We look at the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By identifying unhelpful thought patterns, we can change how you feel and react to stress.
Narrative Therapy: As mentioned, we work on re-authoring your life story to highlight your strengths and values.
Family Systems: We explore how your role within your family, both past and present, impacts your current relationships and self-image.
Mindfulness & Loving-Kindness: Drawing from my undergraduate research at Hampshire College on meditation, I often incorporate grounding techniques that help you stay present and cultivate self-compassion.
Supporting Teens and Young Adults
The transition from adolescence to adulthood is a high-stakes period, especially in our current digital age. I work extensively with teens and young adults who are struggling with academic burnout, identity questions, and the pressure to succeed.
It is my goal to empower young people to define success on their own terms. I provide a supportive environment where they can explore their identities, including gender and sexuality, without fear of judgment. By building a solid foundation of self-worth early on, we set the stage for a healthier, more fulfilling adulthood.

Why Choose Local Support in Georgia?
While the world is more connected than ever, there is something special about working with a therapist who understands your local community. Based in Johns Creek, I am familiar with the specific pressures of our local schools, the cultural makeup of our neighborhoods, and the resources available to you here in the Peach State.
Whether you are looking for an individual session to work through personal anxiety or a couples session to repair a fractured relationship, I am here to walk alongside you.
What to Expect in Our First Session
The first step is always the hardest. I want to make it as low-friction as possible. Our first meeting isn't an interrogation; it's a conversation. We will talk about what brought you here, what you hope to achieve, and most importantly, how we can make you feel safe and comfortable in the process.
