Finding the right therapist can feel like a daunting task, especially when you are looking for someone who doesn’t just "tolerate" who you are, but truly understands the fabric of your identity. Whether you are navigating the complexities of your cultural heritage, exploring your gender or sexual identity, or managing a serious mental health diagnosis, you deserve a space where you don’t have to explain the basics of your existence.
I’m Connie Wei, an Associate Professional Counselor (APC) here at Talk to Heal Counseling Center. My mission is to provide that space, a sanctuary where authenticity isn’t just welcomed; it’s the foundation of our work together.
Bridging Two Worlds: The Second-Gen Chinese American Perspective
For many of us who grew up as second-generation immigrants, life often feels like a constant balancing act. We are the bridge between two cultures that sometimes feel worlds apart. As a second-generation Chinese American, I have lived the unique pressures that come with this identity. There is the "model minority" myth, the weight of parental expectations, and the subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) cultural stigma surrounding mental health.
In many Asian households, the tradition is to "keep it in the family" or to prioritize the collective over the individual. Deciding to seek therapy can feel like an act of rebellion or even a betrayal of those cultural values. I want you to know that your struggle is valid, and seeking help is an act of profound strength, not a sign of weakness.
In our sessions, I bring this lived experience to the table. I understand the nuance of navigating family dynamics where "I love you" is expressed through a plate of cut fruit rather than words. I understand the "perfectionism" that often masks deep-seated anxiety. Together, we can honor your heritage while also carving out space for your individual needs and boundaries. We aren't here to erase your culture; we are here to help you thrive within it, and sometimes, in spite of the pressures it creates.

LGBTQ+ Affirming Care: Beyond the Basics
If you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community, you likely know the exhaustion of "vetting" a therapist. You wonder: Will I have to educate them on my pronouns? Will they pathologize my identity? Will they understand the specific trauma of marginalization?
At Talk to Heal, and specifically in my practice, "affirming care" is not just a marketing buzzword. It is a clinical commitment. I provide a safe, supportive, and celebratory space for individuals across the spectrum of gender and sexuality. Whether you are in the middle of a transition, navigating the coming-out process, or simply looking for a therapist who understands that your queer identity is a beautiful part of your whole self, I am here for you.
We live in a world that often asks us to dim our lights or fit into binary boxes. My goal is to empower you to live loudly and authentically. We will address the intersectional stressors you face, from workplace discrimination to family rejection, and work on building a resilient sense of self. You don’t have to "tone it down" here. You can simply be.
Compassion for the Complex: Working with Serious Mental Illness (SMI)
While much of modern therapy focuses on "wellness" and "stress management," there is a significant need for practitioners who are comfortable and experienced in the realm of serious mental illness (SMI). My professional background includes extensive work with individuals facing complex challenges, including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and severe clinical depression.
I believe that a diagnosis should never define a person’s potential for a fulfilling life. When we work together on managing SMI, we use a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach. This means we don't just look at what’s "wrong" or focus solely on symptom reduction. We look at your resilience. We look at how you have survived until now and how we can build a toolkit that supports your stability, your autonomy, and your hope.
Clinical authority doesn't have to be cold. I combine evidence-based practices with human warmth, ensuring that you feel seen as a person first and a "patient" second. Whether we are navigating medication management (in collaboration with your medical team) or developing long-term coping strategies, I am your partner in this process.

My Therapeutic Approach: Collaborative and Empowering
I don’t view myself as the "expert" on your life, you are. My role is to be a skilled guide and a compassionate witness. I use an integrative approach, drawing from various modalities to tailor our sessions to your specific needs. However, the core of my work is always grounded in the therapeutic relationship.
Healing happens when you feel safe. It happens when you know that the person sitting across from (or on the screen from) you truly hears you. I prioritize building a relationship of mutual respect and collaboration. You set the pace, and together, we navigate the obstacles that are standing in the way of your peace.
We focus on:
Empowerment: Helping you reclaim your voice and agency.
Safety: Establishing a trauma-informed environment where you can explore difficult emotions without being overwhelmed.
Resilience: Identifying the strengths you already possess and building new ones.
Making Care Accessible in Georgia
At Talk to Heal Counseling Center, we believe that high-quality mental health care should be accessible. I am proud to serve clients across Georgia through our flexible service models. Services are available only to residents in the State of Georgia. Whether you prefer the intimacy of in-person sessions or the convenience of online therapy, we are here to meet you where you are.
I understand that the logistics of therapy, insurance, scheduling, and finding the right fit, can be a barrier. That’s why we strive to make the process as low-friction as possible. We work with various insurance providers and offer a streamlined booking process to get you started on your journey toward healing.
If you are looking for a therapist who understands the intersection of culture, identity, and mental health, I would be honored to walk alongside you.

Take the Next Step
You’ve spent enough time trying to manage everything on your own. You don’t have to carry the weight of your expectations, your identity, or your diagnosis by yourself. Whether you are a second-gen immigrant looking for cultural understanding, a member of the LGBTQ+ community seeking a safe haven, or someone managing a complex mental health journey, there is a place for you here.
