Healing Through Awareness: Meet Eunice Park, LMSW

Choosing to start therapy is a profound act of self-care, and it is often the first step toward a life that feels more aligned with who you truly are. I believe that healing is not just about "getting over" things; it is about building a deep, compassionate awareness of your own story. My name is Eunice Park, and as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and Associate Therapist here at Talk to Heal Counseling Center, I am dedicated to helping you navigate the complexities of your past so you can live more fully in your present.

In my practice, I focus on creating a space where you feel seen, heard, and: most importantly: safe. Many of the individuals I work with are carrying the weight of experiences that have left them feeling fragmented or disconnected. Whether you are navigating the aftermath of trauma, dealing with the specific challenges of gender-based violence, or trying to reconcile your identity within a diverse cultural framework, my goal is to walk alongside you as you find your way back to yourself.

A Trauma-Informed Approach to Healing

When we talk about trauma, we aren't just talking about major life-altering events. Trauma is anything that overwhelms our capacity to cope and leaves us feeling unsafe in our own bodies or in the world. My approach is rooted in a trauma-informed perspective, which means I prioritize your physical and emotional safety above all else. I understand that the brain and body process trauma in ways that words cannot always reach.

Working from a trauma-informed lens means I don't ask, "What is wrong with you?" Instead, we explore, "What happened to you, and how did you survive it?" I am deeply committed to a strengths-based model. This means we focus on the resilience you have already shown. You are not a set of symptoms to be fixed; you are a person who has developed survival strategies that may no longer be serving you. Together, we can honor those strategies while building new, healthier ways to thrive.

Using Art as a Bridge to the Self

Sometimes, the most painful parts of our stories are the hardest to talk about. We might feel a "tightness" in our chest or a "fog" in our minds, but the words to describe it simply aren't there. This is why I integrate art interventions into my clinical practice. You don’t need to be an "artist" to benefit from this: there is no judgment on the final product.

Art allows us to bypass the logical, analytical part of our brain and tap into our subconscious. By using colors, shapes, and textures, we can externalize the feelings that feel too heavy to carry internally. For many of my clients, creating a visual representation of their "inner critic" or their "safe space" provides a level of clarity that traditional talk therapy alone might take months to achieve.

Reconciling with the past often requires us to look at things that are messy and non-linear. Art provides a container for that messiness. It allows us to process trauma at a pace that feels manageable, giving you a tangible way to see your progress and your personal evolution.

Supporting Survivors of Gender-Based Violence

A significant portion of my clinical training and professional experience has been dedicated to supporting survivors of gender-based violence and abuse. I recognize the unique layers of shame, fear, and societal pressure that often accompany these experiences.

If you have experienced violence or abuse, I want you to know that your story matters, and your feelings are valid. Healing from these experiences requires a specialized type of care that understands the dynamics of power and control. In our sessions, we work to reclaim the agency that was taken from you. We focus on rebuilding self-trust and establishing boundaries that protect your peace. It is an honor for me to support diverse populations as they navigate these difficult paths, ensuring that every individual: regardless of their background: feels they have a sanctuary within our therapeutic relationship.

Reconciling with the Past and Diverse Identities

Our identities are often shaped by the cultures we grew up in, the families that raised us, and the ancestral histories we carry. For many members of diverse communities, "healing" involves navigating the tension between traditional expectations and individual desires.

I take great care to provide a culturally sensitive environment. I understand that your experiences are filtered through the lens of your unique identity. Reconciling with the past often means examining the "unspoken rules" we were taught and deciding which ones we want to keep and which ones we are ready to let go of. Awareness is the key to this process. Once we become aware of the patterns that were passed down to us, we gain the power to choose a different path for our future.

The Ease of Online Therapy

In today's fast-paced world, finding time to travel to an office can be a barrier to getting the help you deserve. To make mental health support as accessible as possible, I provide my services primarily through online sessions. This allows you to engage in deep, transformative work from the comfort and privacy of your own home: or wherever you feel most secure.

Virtual sessions are conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant platforms (like Zoom), ensuring that our conversations remain confidential. Many of my clients find that being in their own familiar environment helps them open up more easily, making the therapeutic process feel more integrated into their daily lives.

Why Awareness Changes Everything

The title of this post, "Healing Through Awareness," is the cornerstone of my philosophy. Awareness is the opposite of "autopilot." When we live on autopilot, we react to triggers based on past wounds without really knowing why. We might feel stuck in the same toxic relationships, the same self-sabotaging habits, or the same cycle of anxiety.

By bringing awareness to our thoughts, our bodily sensations, and our histories, we create a "gap" between the stimulus and our response. In that gap lies our freedom. My role is to help you expand that gap. Through our work together, you will learn to notice when your body is entering a "fight or flight" state and how to soothe yourself back to a place of calm. You will learn to recognize the voices of the past and distinguish them from your own authentic voice.
