Turning Challenges into Growth: Meet Calvin Go, MA

Hello there. I’m Calvin Go, and I am so glad you’ve found your way to this corner of the internet. If you are reading this, it’s likely because you or someone you love is navigating a season of life that feels a bit like a storm. Maybe the pressure of school is becoming an unbearable weight, or perhaps the internal noise of a busy brain is making it hard to find a sense of peace. Whatever brought you here, I want you to know one thing right away: you don't have to navigate this journey alone.

At Talk to Heal Counseling Center, we believe that every person has a story worth telling and a future worth fighting for. Our services are available only to residents of the State of Georgia. My role as a therapist is to walk alongside you, offering a safe harbor where you can unpack your challenges and transform them into the very fuel for your growth.

A Personal Connection: Navigating the ADHD Brain

When I talk about ADHD, I’m not just speaking from a clinical perspective or what I learned during my Master’s program. I’m speaking from the heart. My journey into the world of mental health began long before I earned my "MA" suffix; it started in classrooms where I felt like a puzzle piece that didn't quite fit.

For a long time, I lived with the "noise." I knew what it was like to sit at a desk for three hours and only manage to write a single sentence. I knew the sting of being told I had "so much potential" if I would just "apply myself." I lived through the frustration of losing my keys, my assignments, and my focus: all while wondering why everyone else seemed to have a manual for life that I had somehow missed.

Eventually, I realized that my brain wasn't broken; it was just wired differently. This realization was life-changing. It’s why I am so passionate about working with individuals who feel "different." I’ve lived the struggle, and I’ve found the way through. Now, my goal is to help you shorten your learning curve. Whether you are a student struggling with executive functioning or a young professional feeling overwhelmed by adulting, I understand the unique hurdles you face because I’ve cleared them myself.

Mentoring the Next Generation: Teens and Young Adults

There is something incredibly powerful about the transition from adolescence into adulthood. It is a time of immense possibility, but it’s also a time of intense pressure. Today’s teens and young adults are navigating a world that is faster, louder, and more demanding than ever before.

Between the academic rigor of schools in Georgia and the non-stop comparison trap of social media, it’s no wonder that anxiety and school-related stress are at an all-time high. I see you. I see the late nights spent studying, the fear of "falling behind," and the confusion of trying to figure out who you are supposed to be in a world that is always telling you who you should be.

In our sessions, I step away from the traditional, stuffy "doctor-patient" dynamic. I like to think of myself as a mentor-therapist. We are a team. We are going to look at the stressors in your life: whether it’s that looming SAT, a difficult social dynamic, or the paralyzing fear of picking the "wrong" college major: and we are going to build a toolkit tailored specifically for you. We’ll talk about practical strategies for managing school stress, but we’ll also go deeper into the "why" behind the anxiety, helping you build a foundation of resilience that will last far beyond graduation.

Identity and the Search for Self

"Who am I?" is perhaps the most important question any of us will ever ask. For many young people, the answer feels like it’s constantly shifting. I specialize in supporting individuals through the process of identity and self-discovery. This includes:

  • Navigating Cultural Identity: As someone who understands the nuances of diverse backgrounds, I provide a respectful space to explore how your heritage, family expectations, and personal desires intersect.

  • Support for Self-Discovery: Whether you are exploring your gender identity, your sexual orientation, or simply trying to find your voice in a crowded room, I am here to listen and affirm your journey.

  • Building Self-Worth: We spend so much time looking at our "deficits." I want to pivot the conversation toward your strengths. What makes you you is often your greatest asset, even if it feels like a burden right now.

I believe in a strengths-based approach. That means we don't just focus on "fixing" what’s wrong; we focus on amplifying what’s right. Every challenge you’ve faced has left you with a skill or a perspective that we can use to propel you forward.

How I Work: Creating a Safe Space

The most important part of therapy isn't the theory or the techniques; it’s the relationship. When you step into a session with me: whether it's in person or through our online services: you are stepping into a judgment-free zone.

I use a trauma-informed lens, which means I recognize that your current behaviors or feelings are often your brain’s way of trying to protect you from past hurts. We’ll work together at a pace that feels comfortable for you. I am here to empower you, not to tell you what to do. You are the expert on your own life; I’m just the guy with the map and a flashlight helping you find the path.

We’ll use a mix of evidence-based practices, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): To help reframe those "I'm not good enough" thoughts.

  • Executive Function Coaching: Practical tips for the ADHD brain to manage time and tasks.

  • Mindfulness and Stress Management: Tools to calm the nervous system when school or work gets too loud.
